An American Expat Family of Five Ditches the Headlines and Dives Headfirst into China

An American expat family of five is about to trade assumptions for firsthand experience. Over the next three months starting from October 1st, they'll move through six of China's most dynamic cities, beginning in Shenzhen, then pushing onward to Guangzhou and beyond, chasing one big question: Is this where they build what's next?
Most of what Americans think they know about China, they believe, is wrong. And they're not content to take anyone's word for it.
This isn't a family new to the road. They've spent nearly a decade living and traveling across Asia full-time with their three kids, and China marks their first real deep dive into a country most American's are taught to fear rather than understand. They're arriving wide eyed, sure, but genuinely curious.

For them, travel has never meant sightseeing. Their kids have never sat in a traditional classroom. Instead, they've learned the way their parents believe kids learn best: through real life. They've absorbed new languages, immersed themselves in unfamiliar cultures, watched how communities around the world approach faith and tradition, connected with people from every walk of life, and given back through philanthropy work alongside locals in need. The world has been their classroom. Now that classroom becomes China.

But there's a second layer to this trip, and it's just as electrifying. These are entrepreneurs at heart, the kind who feel China's modernity, pace, and innovation as a spark. Alongside the family adventure, they're here to explore real business opportunities, get up close to China's industries, connect with brands, and hunt down collaborations and partnerships worth building. All while asking themselves whether there's something here worth creating from scratch.
Three sectors have their attention. Technology comes first, Shenzhen isn't called China's Silicon Valley for nothing, and they want to understand its innovation firsthand. Then clothing and retail, where they'll explore how China designs, produces, and moves fashion at a scale the rest of the world can't touch. And finally, beauty and wellness, an industry where Asia often runs years ahead of the West, and one close to their hearts as a health and longevity focused family.

What exactly will they create? They don't know yet. That's the thrilling part. They're arriving open, curious, and ready to be inspired, whether that becomes a new brand, a new product, or simply a deeper understanding of what's possible when you stop believing the headlines and go see for yourself.
They'll document all of it: the cities, the culture, the food, the industries, the everyday life. Through daily vlogs and a newly relaunched YouTube channel, they'll share the journey with a worldwide audience. And if you're in Shenzhen with a story worth telling, a place worth featuring, or a collaboration in mind, they'd love to connect while they're here.
China, they're ready. Let's see what you've got.
