Where do I buy ferry tickets?
Most routes sell tickets via the Shekou Ferry Terminal mobile app, the Shenzhen Bay ferry WeChat mini-program, or in person at the ticket counter inside Shekou Cruise Center. Macau Taipa and Macau Outer Harbor tickets become available online daily from 12 noon. Student, first-class and VIP tickets for several routes are counter-only.

How early should I arrive at the terminal?
Plan for 60 minutes before departure if you're crossing to Hong Kong or Macau — immigration and the gangway boarding both take time. For Zhuhai and the island routes (Wailingding, Guishan, DongAo) 30–40 minutes is enough. Check-in closes 15 minutes before sailing on all routes.

What ID do I need to take the ferry?
For routes to Hong Kong and Macau: a valid passport for foreign visitors, or your home-return permit / Mainland Travel Permit if you're a Hong Kong or Macau resident. For Zhuhai and the island routes: any valid government photo ID (passport or Chinese ID card) is accepted.

Can I bring luggage?
Yes — 1 standard piece (up to 23 kg) is free on cross-border routes; additional bags incur an overweight fee at check-in. Island routes are stricter — large suitcases may not be permitted on smaller catamarans. Strollers and wheelchairs are accommodated on all routes; flag ahead at the counter if you need assistance.

What happens if my ferry is cancelled due to weather?
Typhoon signal T3 and above triggers automatic cancellations across all routes. The terminal posts updates on its WeChat account and at the ticket counter. Refunds are processed on the original payment method within 7 working days. Always check the forecast and the terminal's WeChat the morning of your travel during typhoon season (June–October).
