Busting Squatters on the High-Speed Trains

If you’ve spent anytime riding the rails in China, you’ve likely had, or know someone who has had, to deal with those obnoxious people who feel they can just take any seat they want; including yours. With train staff doing little or nothing to help, these situations can turn ugly.

Luckily, the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress has decided to address this issue; and others, in the new “Regulations on Railway Safety Management of Guangdong Province;” which was adoped September 30th, 2018.

Shekou TV reported yesterday of the new Guangdong Railway Safety Management Regulations, the first local regulation of railway safety management in China; which start in December, make it illegal to occupy another persons seat, and stipulates that violators will have their social credit scores impacted. Let’s hope that the people who feel it’s ok to behave like this actually care about their social credit score.
