Captivating 2025: One Act. Endless Impact

In remote and rural regions in China there are still significant income and opportunity gaps. Women and mothers in rural areas often lack access to education and income-producing skills, leaving them working on family farms and caring for elders. For many, expenses exceed income, placing strain on the household. Girls in these families risk not finishing high school due to boarding costs and the pressure to support their families.

Captivating International was founded as a Hong Kong charity 18 years ago, partnering with Chinese registered grassroots Charity organizations, to help fill some of these gaps. From the beginning, Captivating has been driven by the belief that every child and every person has something incredible to offer their world, and the need to take them from a position of extreme disadvantage to having real choices. Since 2015, Captivating’s programs came under the oversight of the Shenzhen Charity Federation where they have worked in partnership ever since.

Captivating’s Programs include:

ONE MORE YEAR

Captivating’s “ONE MORE YEAR” program helps 500 students from underprivileged families in rural regions of Yunnan, Sichuan, Guanxi and Guizhou go as far as they can in their schooling. We want to see them complete senior high school or vocational school. Through assistance and support to approved students and their families, we will reduce the financial pressure and worry of these critical final school years and help improve their focus and performance at school. Together, we will see these students stay in school for One More Year, then maybe another, and another. Doing this inspires confidence, enhances their dignity, empowers them to see brighter futures filled with better choices.

Volunteer Teacher Program

It’s not uncommon for village based primary schools located in extremely remote and mountainous locations to struggle getting the teachers they need. As a result, it doesn’t take long for students to start slipping behind their urban based peers, concluding there is no future in education past the compulsory 9 years. A volunteer teacher can make all the difference.

Whether a new teaching graduate with a heart for service, or an experienced retired teacher wanting to help out in remote locations they know are struggling, the “VOLUNTEER TEACHER” program funds living and transport costs for these amazing volunteers. Our aim is to make it easier for them to (1) say “yes” to volunteering; and (2) stay on as long as possible to build in some stability for their students.

Chicken and Pig Program

For women in remote farming villages, earning a stable income is a daily challenge.

Many rely on small-scale agriculture and temporary work, but the mountainous

terrain makes it difficult to grow high-value crops, leaving families struggling to

make ends meet. The Captivating Chicken and Pig Farming Program equips 180 women (90 in chicken farming and 90 in pig farming) each year with the skills and resources to run small

livestock farms, providing an additional reliable source of income.

Here’s how it works:

Training and Support: Women receive hands-on training in breeding, farm

management, and business skills, ensuring they can successfully raise and

manage their livestock.

Resource Distribution: Each family is provided with an initial allocation of 20

chicks and chicken feed or 2 piglets and pig feed, giving them the foundation to

start their farms.

Ongoing Guidance: Regular household visits and check-ins provide continuous

training, troubleshooting, and encouragement to ensure long-term success.

With proper care, they can generate extra income which helps families cover essential needs like food, medical expenses, and, most importantly, education for their children.
