Longevity Shenzhen Community: Learn How to Live Better & Longer

I'll be honest with you.

When people hear the word "longevity," they usually picture one of two things: a Silicon Valley billionaire swapping his blood with his teenage son's, or a shelf full of supplements with names you can't pronounce. Pills, protocols, wearables, lab tests. Expensive, complicated, and a little bit lonely.

That's not what we're doing here in Shenzhen.

I've been fascinated by biohacking for years, but I didn't come to it through a podcast or a trend. I came to it because something was wrong. For a long stretch of my life I lived in a fog, heavy, persistent brain fog that made everything feel a few steps slower than it should.

The answer finally came in the most unexpected place. It was 2018, my first time in China, and I'd started experimenting with intermittent fasting. One morning I broke my fast with a 红豆包子, a steamed red bean bun. Thirty seconds later it started again. On a clean, empty stomach, the fog rolled in so fast and so unmistakably that I just knew something in there causes it. It turned out to be the gluten. Years of feeling foggy, and the answer had been sitting on my plate the whole time.

That moment changed how I think about health. It taught me that small, unglamorous things can quietly run your life, and that figuring them out is worth the effort. The deeper I dug into the science of living longer and better, the more one finding kept jumping out at me, and it had nothing to do with a gadget or a molecule. It was this: the people you surround yourself with are one of the most powerful factors shaping how long, and how well, you live.

That stuck with me. Because if community is medicine, then the obvious move is to find one. I went looking for a biohacking or longevity community here in Shenzhen, and there was none. So I set out to build one myself.

In March 2026, I started Longevity Shenzhen.

What Longevity Shenzhen actually is

Longevity Shenzhen is an in-person, bilingual, non-commercial community for anyone interested in longevity, biohacking, and personal health. We're a local chapter of the global Longevity Cities network, which started in Germany (check out https://longevity-germany.com/en) and now connects communities around the world.

A few things make us a little different, and they're the things I care about most:

Everything is free. Every single event. I never wanted longevity to feel like a members-only club for people who can afford a five-figure annual checkup. Health shouldn't be gatekept.

Focus is on in-person events. Real rooms, real conversations, real people you can shake hands with and grab a coffee with afterwards.

Everyone is welcome. You don't need to know your VO2 max or have opinions about rapamycin. Maybe you read every longevity study that comes out. Maybe you work in the field. Maybe you're just curious and want to feel a bit better day to day. All of you belong here.

The whole idea is to make longevity feel social, practical, and approachable, instead of clinical, expensive, and intimidating.

What we've gotten up to since March

Here's the thing about building a community: you don't do it with a mission statement. You do it by actually showing up, again and again, in small ways. And you don't do it alone, I've been lucky to have Luke, Marina, and Ziliang co-organizing alongside me, and a lot of what follows simply wouldn't have happened without them.

We started our mornings with meditation in Zhongshan Park, nothing fancy, just a group of people breathing, sitting, and easing into the day together before the city fully woke up.

We've gone on hikes and walks around Shenzhen, which turns out to be one of the best ways to actually get to know people. There's something about walking side by side, the conversations go deeper than they ever would across a table.

We visited the 2026 Global Medical and Health Exhibition together, nerding out over the latest in health tech and seeing where the science is actually heading.

And we've kept it cozy too, with coffee chats and longevity dinners, good food, good conversation, and the slow, low-pressure work of turning strangers into friends.

None of these are revolutionary on their own. But that's kind of the point. Longevity isn't a single heroic intervention. It's a thousand small, consistent, human things, and doing them alongside other people makes them stick.

Our first speaker event: Why Sleep Is the Main Pillar for Longevity

Now we're trying something new, and I'm genuinely excited about it. Since starting Longevity Shenzhen, I had the goal to bring educational value to our community members in the form of speaker events.

On June 26th, we're hosting our very first speaker event, together with Vibe Science, a Shenzhen-based neurotech startup building consumer neuro-stimulation devices. The evening is all about sleep, longevity, and the future of neurotechnology.

The talk "Why Sleep Is the Main Pillar for Longevity" will be given by Dr. Paul Rochon, Head of Sleep at Vibe Science and Director of the Raffles Sleep Centre at Raffles Hospital Beijing. He's a cognitive neuroscientist who specializes in sleep, recovery, and mental wellbeing, exactly the person you want explaining why the thing you do for a third of your life matters so much for the other two thirds.

But it won't be a lecture you sit through politely. There'll be free snacks, longevity-friendly drinks, a smart salon on sleep science, and immersive neurotech demos of an unreleased device you can actually try yourself. Come by, hang out, meet interesting people, and try something genuinely new to kick off the weekend.

Here are the details:
•    What: "Why Sleep Is the Main Pillar for Longevity" — a talk by Dr. Paul Rochon, with Vibe Science
•    When: Friday June 26, 2026, 6:00–8:30 PM

•    Language: English
•    Cost: Free
•    Sign up: Spaces are limited, so please register via the QR code on our poster

One last thing

I'll leave you with the same thought that got me started.

You won't live the healthiest, longest version of your life alone. Supplements and wearables and lab tests have their place, but the people around you matter just as much, maybe more. That's the whole bet behind Longevity Shenzhen, and so far, the people who've shown up have made me think the bet is right.

So come to our next event. Meet some curious, kind, slightly health-obsessed people. Pinky promise, you won't regret it.

See you on the 26th.
