New 8,000 sq ft Tech Space For Expat Kids in Shekou!

Just before the summer holiday, QSI opened a new 8,000 square foot space dubbed the Learning Union.

This isn’t your typical multipurpose room!  Designed to incorporate workspaces that integrate high tech and low tech, fostering discovery and group interaction, the new wing located in QSI “main” campus in Shekou (on Taizi Road in the former Park ‘n Shop location), welcomed in students after a grand opening held Friday May 25th for parents and teachers.

By the following Monday the space was earning its name: during one lesson period 5 different classes were in the Learning Union using it in 5 different ways!

Students ages 8 – 13 now have at their disposal a Maker’s Space, classroom-style computer lab, open-access computer lab, modular group workstations, comfortable collaborative areas, the library stacks, and finally a sound booth for film and podcast recording.

Low tech meets high tech: sit down at the sewing machine or learn how to use a hacksaw, program a Sphero robot or make your creation a reality with the laser cutter or 3D printers.

This list goes on: LEGO robotics, photo and film green screen, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality sandbox, Scratch, DJI drones … they even boast a homemade arcade game!
