PLH Fitness Club: Fitness by the Beach

Most big cities boast a wealth of established, committed clubs. Xiaojingwan is a lot smaller, a holiday destination with only a handful of clubs to its name. But that lack of city life brings something else entirely: the freedom for people to make their own fun.

PLH Fitness Club grew out of exactly that spirit. Inspired by the Our Beijing founder, Dom set up incredible hikes, e-bike tours, and cultural workshops, and the club took shape. Another big influence was ex-pro cyclist Sid, who shared his knowledge of local routes and gave technical advice that helped members improve their cycling and running. The idea was simple: make positive changes to life on this beautiful beach they call home.

PLH Fitness Club is an amateur, non-profit fitness club. There's no fixed address, members simply find something that gets them moving and do it. It's free to join, and people of all fitness levels are welcome.

Based in Xiaojingwan (Park Lane Harbour), Huizhou, the club is located in a beach cove and surrounded by other beach towns, just 1.5 hours from Shenzhen and 40 minutes from Huiyang and downtown Huizhou. And the plan? Keep exploring and having adventures all over Guangdong.

Members usually meet once a week and most weekends, with one aim: exercise consistently, have fun, and support the local community. Activities are adventurous, relaxed, and a great way to meet new people. The goal is to get active, stay inspired, and build healthy habits, focusing on building each other up, not competing against one another. It doesn't matter what nationality you are or what language you speak, everyone is welcome to work together, get healthier, and be the best they can be.

And the best part? Activities are totally free! Members often meet for Greenway runs and have run and cycled to local temples. They recently took part in the Xunliao Bay Peninsula 24km hill run, and cycling has taken them to nearby lakes, local farmland, and Golden Beach, with Huidong County offering some amazing longer distance routes. In fact, the club knows an incredible ride to an oyster farm.

Hikes have included the Dapeng Tea Horse Ancient Road, Yagongding Forest Park, and Luofu Mountain. Some members love to SUP by the beach, and there are Huizhou and Park Lane Harbour run-and-eat food tour routes in the works. The club also recently cycled a 10km Greenway route to raise money for Learning House, an orphanage charity based in Beijing, with many more exciting fitness activities planned.

Every active person needs the right fuel, and PLH has been building relationships with their favorite local restaurants in Xiaojingwan. Members enjoy exclusive discounts at selected spots such as Lima House, an authentic Peruvian restaurant, and 涌座, a high-quality sushi bar. The club are also regulars at Bohemia Roadhouse and Take Five coffee shop, and members can get discounts at Hercules Gym and Flying Shark Power Surfing Club, where water sports boards are available to rent.
