Shekou Hash House Harriers: A Drinking Club With a Running Problem

The Shekou kennel of the Hash House Harriers (SH3), part of the worldwide “Drinking Club with a Running Problem,” marks its 41st anniversary in 2025, having been founded in 1984.

This vibrant group gathers every Saturday at 12:45 PM at George & Dragon in SeaWorld Plaza, No. 1128 Wanghai Road, Shenzhen’s Nanshan District (Exit A, Sea World Metro Station, Line 2). At 1:30 PM, a bus departs for a trail run or walk in the scenic mountains near Shenzhen, offering runs of 7–11 km with up to 700 meters of combined ascent, while the walk covers roughly half the distance.

On average, 35 Hashers join each Saturday, with turnout occasionally reaching 80. The group charges ¥30 for kids, ¥60 for women, and ¥80 for men to cover buses, water, soda, and beer, maintaining a lively, social atmosphere. While not strictly a family hash, SH3 is family-friendly, though some adult language is common, reflecting the global Hash House Harriers tradition. Dogs are welcome, but access to certain trail sections, such as parks, may be restricted. Post-trail, participants enjoy an optional dinner near the trail (additional cost), returning to Shekou between 9:30 PM and 10:00 PM, depending on traffic.
