Shenzhen Foundation for International Exchange and Cooperation: Fostering Global Connections

Established in December 2014, the Shenzhen Foundation for International Exchange and Cooperation (SFIEC) stands as China’s first non-public foundation dedicated to advancing international exchange and Shenzhen’s global integration. With a mission to create platforms for cross-cultural collaboration, drive innovation, and engage diverse social entities in global governance, SFIEC has facilitated over 1,000 activities across eight key fields: economy, technology, education, culture, arts, environmental protection, sister cities, and health and wellness. Its global footprint spans six continents, 37 countries, and over 100 cities, with operational branches in Brisbane, Toronto, and Stockholm, and partnerships with nearly 100 organizations worldwide.

SFIEC’s flagship programs include the Shenzhen x Lancang-Mekong + Initiative, launched in 2017 under the Belt and Road and Lancang-Mekong Cooperation frameworks, which supports public welfare projects in hygiene, health, energy, and cultural exchange, notably earning a “Top 10 Creative Projects” award for its hearing loss genetic testing project. The City Plus platform connects Shenzhen with its sister cities through initiatives like the “Just Shenzhen, Just Young” Video Contest, attracting global media attention since 2022, and the “LIVE LOCAL, LIVE GLOBAL” Shenzhen Urban Discovery. The Value Plus platform, in collaboration with UNDP and CICETE, promotes sustainable development through projects like the UNDP SDG Innovation Lab in Longhua District, launched in 2024 to advance localized sustainability policies.

Further initiatives like the “Shentlemen” Series, started in 2015, amplify Shenzhen’s global voice through events such as Shentlemen Hub and Dialogues, while Empower Global Enterprises facilitates high-end platforms for Shenzhen-based companies to access international resources. Through strategic partnerships with public welfare organizations, think tanks, and business associations, SFIEC drives sustainable development and tells China’s story on the global stage. By fostering actionable collaborations and immersive programs, SFIEC continues to position Shenzhen as a hub for international innovation and cultural exchange.
