SZ Weekly Sports Update 7/8/2026 in Partnership with NowShenzhen: Pro Baseball Starting in Shenzhen, Futsal Champs in Shenzhen

We're back! We took a little break with weekly sports updates during the summer, but now we are back at it with lots to bring you!

As it is the summer all recreational and community leagues have paused for now. But pro sports continue with 2 new teams starting their season in Shenzhen this month! Professional Baseball  in Shenzhen begins later in the month featuring many former MLB and Triple-A players. Shenzhen is represented by Shenzhen Bluesox who won the 2026 Spring Series held earlier this year. Professional Futsal also returns to Shenzhen with China's best ever team, Shenzhen Tielang FC (Shenzhen Iron Wolves FC), coming off of a record 11th league championship of the Chinese Futsal Super League. They are again sitting near the top of the league looking to win the league for the 4th year in a row!

Shenzhen Bluesox (Chinese Professional Baseball) 

Summary - The Shenzhen Bluesox,  2026 CPB Spring League champions (beat Shanghai Dragons 2-1 in the finals series back in February!), are back in action for the inaugural Summer League, which runs Aug 13 to Sep 28 across two host cities (Shanghai's Xuhui West Bund Baseball Park and Shenzhen's Zhongshan Park Baseball Field). Six teams are competing this summer (Shenzhen Bluesox, Shanghai Orcas, Beijing Loongs, Fuzhou Sea Knights, Xiamen Dolphins, Changsha Want Want Happy). Shenzhen will host 18 of the 45 regular-season games at Zhongshan Park, with the top four teams advancing to the Semi-Final Series (Sep 21–24) and the best-of-three Championship Series (Sep 26–28).

Shenzhen Nanling Tielang (CFA Futsal Super League)

Summary - Shenzhen Nanling Tielang is a team that once faced FC Barcelona in the futsal world championships. Shenzhen currently sit 2nd in the CFA Futsal Super League with a 7-1-1 record and a league-leading +55 goal difference, just three points behind leaders Shijiazhuang Fumei. Phase 2 is now underway in a home-and-away format, with Shenzhen home games played at Longgang Qiushuishan Sports Center. They look for their 4th straight Super League championship this year!

Summary - Back to winning ways at just the right time! After a bruising run since the FA Cup Derby win in June, and a heartbreaking cup exit on penalties to Shanghai Port on July 21st, Peng City finally got a much-needed home win, beating Chongqing Tonglianglong 2-0 at Shenzhen Stadium on August 2nd. That result moves them to 7W-2D-12L with 23 points and lifts them up to around 10th in the Chinese Super League. Now onto two tough away trips: Beijing Guoan on August 7th, then Liaoning Tieren on August 15th. Big chance to build some real momentum on the road.

Juniors FC (Chinese League 1 - Pro Tier 2)

Summary - What a way to end a bad run! After going seven league games without a win, Juniors got the three points they desperately needed on August 2nd with a 1-0 home win over Wuxi Wugou, sealed by Rodrigo Henrique in the 90'+3 minute at Bao'an Sports Centre Stadium. Cue the scenes. That lifts them to 5th in the table on 29 points (tied on points with 3rd), still very much alive in the promotion chase where top 2 is needed. Attention now turns to a big away day at Yanbian Longding on August 9th, followed by a home clash with Ningbo Professional on August 16th, both crucial matches if Juniors are to climb back into the promotion picture.

Summary - What a summer stretch for 2028 FC! From the Hubei Istar win on June 14th, they went on an nine-match unbeaten league run through most of June and July, including standout home wins over Hangzhou Linping (3-1), Chengdu Rongcheng B (1-0) and Guangzhou Dandelion (3-1). That run finally ended withan away defeat at  Guizhou Guiyang (0-1) who sit in 1st place on August 1st. Still, it's been a hugely productive stretch of results that has firmly established them in the South Group promotion picture. Attention now turns to a big home clash with Ganzhou Ruishi on August 8th, a chance for revenge after the 3-0 loss at Ganzhou back in May where they spent half the match on red card.
