Tango Argentino Shenzhen: Bringing Argentine Tango Excellence to Shenzhen

Tango Argentino Shenzhen, the only tango organization in South China founded by a native Argentinian, was established in 2016 as La Escuela de Tango by Pablo and Cheryl. Based in Shenzhen, this dynamic group brings the passion of Argentine Tango to life through comprehensive courses that span beginner to advanced techniques, as well as choreography for special performances. Their vibrant Milonga La Gardelita dance parties create a lively community hub, uniting tango enthusiasts from Shenzhen’s expat and local circles in an atmosphere of elegance and connection.

The organization’s influence extends beyond Shenzhen, with invitations to teach long-term Argentine Tango courses at prestigious institutions like Peking University, Tsinghua University, Harbin University of Science and Technology, and the Shenzhen Campus of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Offering instruction in both English and Chinese, La Escuela de Tango ensures accessibility for diverse learners. In collaboration with the Argentine Consulate in Guangzhou, it promotes authentic Argentine culture and supports Argentinian-owned small businesses, fostering cultural exchange and artistic expression across the region.

Leading this endeavor is Pablo, a Buenos Aires native whose journey in tango began in Argentina’s capital, where he studied at the National University of the Arts (UNA). His teaching career took root in Buenos Aires, organizing the renowned Milonga La Gardelita in the San Telmo district. Pablo’s expertise grew internationally, serving as a resident Tango instructor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and teaching intensive courses in Philadelphia, bringing his deep knowledge to Shenzhen’s tango scene.

Complementing Pablo is Cheryl, a professional dancer from Macau with a background at the World Dance Council. Her extensive experience in teaching and stage performance allows her to guide dancers from varied backgrounds, using targeted exercises to enhance body control and flexibility. Specializing in Salon-style and Milonguero-style Tango, Cheryl’s insightful approach helps students master the dance’s intricate movements, making La Escuela de Tango a cornerstone of cultural and artistic excellence in Shenzhen.
