Brono Bajtala, a dynamic 32 year-old actor and filmmaker hailing from Slovakia and now living in Guangzhou, has channeled his burning passion for epic fantasy into a bold, heartfelt independent short film: The Warrior’s Tale: Circle of Hatred.

With eight years of acting under his belt, Brono stepped boldly into multifaceted roles, writing the script, directing, editing, and producing, joined by trusted co-producers Levi Webb and Jan Slastan. The project’s visuals soared thanks to the masterful touch of South African cinematographer Alexander Roux, who co-directed and served as director of photography, bringing a cinematic grandeur that punched far above its weight.

Fueled by an enduring love for towering fantasy epics, chief among them the timeless Lord of the Rings trilogy, which he reveres as one of film’s supreme masterpieces, Brono also draws electric inspiration from Game of Thrones, Warcraft, The Witcher, and the sweeping myths of medieval lore. This ignited the birth of a vivid original realm teeming with archetypal wonders: noble elves, hardy dwarves, fierce humans, flickering magic, gleaming swords, unyielding shields, and galloping steeds.

Against all odds and with a fiercely modest budget of around RMB 40,000, the team unleashed unbridled ambition in this guerrilla style indie gem. Brono immersed himself in editing for two and a half intense months, crafting the final cut with near daily devotion, a grueling yet exhilarating journey that turned his visionary story into living reality.

The production roared to life as a true odyssey, spanning stunning locations across Guangzhou, Foshan, and the breathtaking wilds of Yunnan Province, including historic Lijiang and a majestic national park. To conquer logistics, Brono and co-producer/co-star Jan Slastan embarked on an epic 4,000+ kilometer round trip drive from Guangzhou to Lijiang and back, hauling irreplaceable gear where planes and trains couldn’t help. They captured magic in Lijiang over two whirlwind days, with Roux flying in to join, before wrapping the rest: one day in bustling Guangzhou and two in a pro studio in Foshan.

Boasting a vibrant international cast of 12 actors from around the globe, the film pulses with a cosmopolitan energy that’s rare and electrifying. Film critics hail it as potentially the most expansive short film ever crafted by foreign creators in China, and quite possibly the sole original fantasy short by expat filmmakers in the country to date.

The China premiere ignited on December 17 at Guangzhou’s CGV Cinemas in K11, shattering expectations with over 100 enthusiastic attendees. Cast and crew journeyed from far flung cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Huizhou, and the crowd’s thunderous reaction left many awestruck by the onscreen spectacle.

Now, the team charges forward with submissions to international film festivals as their blazing priority, keeping the full film off online platforms in order to preserve its festival magic and the thrill of big-screen encounters.

In the horizon burns Brono’s dream of expanding The Warrior’s Tale into a full length feature. For the moment, hearts and efforts are locked on the festival circuit. Overflowing with gratitude for his extraordinary collaborators, Bruno beams with pride at what sheer determination, tight resources, and raw talent forged, and thrills at the unknown adventures ahead for this passion fueled creation.
