China, Canada Hold Cross-border E-commerce Exchange Meeting

THE 2022 China-Canada Cross-border E-Commerce Development and Promotion Conference was held online Friday, sending out a message on further strengthening cooperation of the cross-border e-commerce industry among Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Toronto.

The conference jointly organized by the Shenzhen Municipal Commerce Bureau and Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) brought together 200 representatives of enterprises and institutions in the cross-border e-commerce, IT and finance sectors in Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Toronto, which aimed to help Shenzhen’s e-commerce firms to expand into the North American market. InvestHK is a department of the HKSAR Government.

Yao Ren, deputy secretary general of the Shenzhen Municipal Government, said that China’s cross-border e-commerce has grown rapidly in recent years and has become a viable force in the development of foreign trade. As a pioneer of cross-border e-commerce in China, the city possesses a sound industrial ecology and has unveiled several preferential policies for the industry.

He encouraged companies in Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Toronto to deepen collaboration in innovation and brand promotion, and to jointly achieve healthy development of cross-border e-commerce.

In his speech, Denzil Minnan-Wong, deputy mayor for the city of Toronto, noted that as the largest city and economic powerhouse in Canada, Toronto has a friendship city relationship with Shenzhen and the two cities have yielded win-win achievements in areas of economy and trade, information technology and culture. The Toronto Government will continue to support exchanges and cooperation between local companies and Shenzhen and Hong Kong companies.

Officials of the Toronto Economic Development and Culture Division, Invest Hong Kong and Shenzhen Municipal Commerce Bureau shared with the audience about their business climate, opportunities, services and support for cross-border e-commerce.

The conference also featured keynote speeches by representatives of Canadian companies, such as PurMinds NeuroPharma and Hongmall, as well as representatives of Chinese companies such as Shenzhen Migoosmart Co. and Alibaba.com.

The event was also supported by Shenzhen International Investment and Promotion Association, a nonprofit organization.
