About

Shekou International School (SIS) is the first private, co-educational, not-for-profit school in Shenzhen. Established in Shekou, Nanshan District in 1988, SIS serves students in Nursery through Grade 12 (ages 2-18) on the Jingshan, the Bay and the Net Valley campuses.

SIS has long been at the forefront of international education for expatriate children in the region. The school is currently home to students representing more than 40 countries. SIS provides a holistic education in a caring community and inspires our students to become principled, innovative contributors in a transforming world.

SIS Academics

Students in SIS are outstanding learners. Graduates are regularly accepted into top universities around the world. With our international student body, students go on to study in countries of their choice including Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Italy, South Korea, the Netherlands, Spain, Singapore, the UK and USA.

Curriculum

As an IB Continuum School, SIS offers the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP). SIS provides a rigorous education in a caring community and inspires our students to become principled, innovative contributors in a transforming world. It is our commitment to provide a relevant education that prepares students for the future.

For decades, SIS has proudly offered the French International Programme (FIP), accredited by LabelFrancÉducation. French is the primary language of instruction, complemented by English and Chinese, creating a unique trilingual learning experience.

Activities

Co-Curricular Activities are offered during and after school to enhance students’ learning experiences and engage students in opportunities to develop physical and social skills as well as extend themselves in new and creative ways.

We offer more than 100 different co-curricular activities for our students to choose from that range from sports, musical performance clubs, debating, and service oriented events. Students are encouraged to propose and lead their own clubs in secondary level, which develops leadership and organization skills. Many activities also offer opportunities for competition where we can show off our Gecko spirit!

Community

SIS believes in community. The school has a strong community orientation and welcomes families from a diversity of cultures, languages and backgrounds. SIS strives to involve students, families and staff in partnership for students’ success. Being located in the heart of Shekou, we use our campuses to host annual events that bring the community together for shared learning and celebration.

For more than 37 years, SIS has been at the frontier of offering a truly international school experience in Shenzhen, welcoming those that arrive in China or transition into our school from within the country. SIS offers a home for all our community members. Our existing Gecko students, staff and families embrace new arrivals to create solid friendships and connections across the school, and this then becomes the foundation of our community.
