How we built the directory

Now Shenzhen has been pointing English-speaking residents at trustworthy businesses since 2001 — long before the city had a coherent expat community, and long before Google Maps could be trusted to tell you whether a clinic actually had an English-speaking doctor. The directory grew from those early years of word-of-mouth recommendations into a structured, vetted index of more than 450 venues across two dozen Lifestyle and Services categories. Every entry is editorially confirmed, and we update or retire listings as businesses change hands, move, or close.

What you’ll find here

The directory spans daily life in Shenzhen — restaurants and nightlife, hotels and serviced apartments, schools and language centres, clinics and spas, legal and visa services, real estate and moving companies, retail and tailors, fitness clubs and chamber-of-commerce organisations. Every listing shows the venue’s photos, address (English and Chinese), phone, WeChat ID where available, district tag, and a short editorial blurb. Premium listings include extended descriptions, multiple photos, and direct booking or contact links.

If you’re new to Shenzhen, start with the practical categories: clinics, Mandarin schools, real-estate agencies, and serviced apartments cover most of the first-month logistics. Once you’re settled, the lifestyle categories — restaurants, nightlife, fitness, spas — are where you’ll spend the most time.   • How are directory listings chosen?

    Every listing is editorially vetted before publication — we verify the business is operating, check the address and contact details, and confirm the venue welcomes English-speaking customers or is otherwise relevant to our audience. We don't list businesses we wouldn't recommend ourselves.

  • How do I get my business listed?

    Free basic listings are available to any legitimately registered Shenzhen business serving the international community. Submit through our contact form with your business name, address, contact details, services and three to five photos. Editorial review takes 3–5 working days. We also offer premium and verified listings with enhanced placement.

  • What's the difference between Premium and Verified listings?

    Verified means we've spoken to the business owner, confirmed credentials (licences, certifications, accreditation), and stand behind their legitimacy. Premium means the business has paid for top-of-category placement, multiple photos, an extended description, and homepage rotation. A listing can be both, neither, or just one.

  • Are these all Shenzhen-only businesses?

    The directory is Shenzhen-focused but we include cross-border services (Hong Kong-based law firms, healthcare providers, and a handful of trusted Guangzhou and Macau venues) that regularly serve our readers. District is shown on every listing, so you'll always know where a venue actually sits.

  • How often is the directory updated?

    We add new listings weekly and audit existing ones quarterly. Closed venues are marked clearly and remain in the directory for six months before archival — that way old reviews and references still resolve. If you spot outdated info, flag it through the contact form and we'll correct it within a week.
