I live in an industrial section of Shenzhen. Every once in a while, it is nice to escape the pollution, traffic and noise. Although perhaps for different reasons, I’m sure that some people downtown would also like to escape their surroundings. I found the perfect place to just relax and find yourself again, even if it is just for an afternoon. It is called Sheraton Dameisha, Capri Italian Restaurant.
At first, it might not seem authentic that I would recommend a restaurant for an afternoon getaway, but if you go for Sunday afternoon brunch at the Capri, you can also enjoy the 40 meter long indoor swimming pool, the modern workout facilities and the beach.
Upon arrival, you will be struck by the flowing architecture of this Sheraton property. Then you will be greeted in typical 5 Star hotel hospitality.
I made my way to the 2nd floor, to the Capri Italian Restaurant and was immediately welcomed and taken to a table with a stunning view of the gigantic outdoor pool and the pristine beach. The sky was clear, the water was blue, am I still in Shenzhen?
The friendly staff at the Capri restaurant immediately brought me a bottle of fresh orange juice before I could even get up to explore the buffet.
At the buffet, there is a wide array of Asian and Western food to choose from. Too many to name, but certainly something for even the most discerning guests. A very generous variety of seafood and meat, a pasta bar, a salad section, a bread table and a number of matching sauces for each.
Although it would be very easy to overindulge, you certainly can’t miss the vast collection of deserts that await you, so you need to save a little space. Colorful displays of irresistible cakes and treats, including a chocolate fountain and an assortment of real ice cream. They even had my favorite ice cream, which happens to be rum and raisin.
If you have children or just want to spoil a special child for the afternoon, the Capri has set aside a section of the restaurant especially for children. It is a safe play area but also includes a table and chairs where your special child can enjoy a variety of fun foods from their own mini buffet.
A live band played a diverse selection of lively music, which fit well with the atmosphere of the restaurant. You get the feeling you could just spend all afternoon right there, but you still have more to explore.
The well maintained, perfect (26 C) temperature, indoor pool is very inviting. If you feel like working off a few of the calories you earned at Capri, you can do a few laps in the pool and then hit the treadmill or choose from various other exercise machines in the workout facility.
Now you are ready to step outside, walk past the enormous infinity edge outdoor pool and make your way to the serenity of the beach. Free from the sounds of the city and factories, this place is truly an oasis in fast paced Shenzhen.
You can see from the pictures included with this story, that it is nicer than I describe. Actually, I can tell you that it is even better in real life. You owe it to yourself to escape every once in a while. It is nice to know you can do that right here in Shenzhen at the Sheraton Dameisha Resort.
