In today's video, we will discuss the difference between drink driving and drunk driving, as well as the quantity of wine that can lead to imprisonment.
We have all heard the saying, "If you drink, don't drive." This is also illegal in China, and the amount of alcohol you consume determines the potential jail time you may face.
When your blood alcohol concentration exceeds or equals 20mg/100ml but remains below 80mg/100ml, it is classified as drink driving. This level of alcohol content is equivalent to consuming one bottle of beer. The penalty for drink driving includes a six-month suspension of your driver's license and a fine ranging from 1000-2000 RMB. If it is your second offense for drunk driving, the penalties become more severe. Your driver's license will be revoked, and you will face fines while being detained for 10 days.
If your blood alcohol content surpasses 80mg/100ml, you will have committed the crime of dangerous driving. This alcohol level is equivalent to consuming two beers or one cup of red wine. The penalties for dangerous driving include a maximum of six months' imprisonment, a criminal record, revocation of your driver's license, and a five-year ban on obtaining a new license.
However, it is possible to receive probation and avoid serving time if you do not meet any of the following conditions: having a blood alcohol level over 200mg/100ml, having a prior conviction, or being involved in an accident. If any of these conditions are met, you forfeit the opportunity for probation, meaning you will be required to serve a prison sentence of 3-6 months. A prior conviction refers to being previously caught for drink or drunk driving, while being involved in an accident entails crashing into a tree, person, wall, or another vehicle.
