Shenzhen International Entrepreneurship Contest: Begins October the 25th

OVER 2,100 professionals from 55 countries will participate in the preliminary contests of the 6th China (Shenzhen) Innovation & Entrepreneurship International Competition that will start Tuesday. According to the organizer, 57.5% of the total contestants are foreign nationals.

The preliminary contests will be held in 10 cities, namely Tel Aviv, Eindhoven, Sydney, Toronto, Berlin, Tokyo, Madrid, Silicon Valley, London and Paris. It is the first time for the organizer to set a subvenue in Paris.

Among the 2,144 contestants, 1,133 of them have doctorate degrees, accounting for 52.8% of the total and 1,849 have master’s or above-level degrees, accounting for 86.4%. A total of 1,234 participants, or 57.5% of the total, are foreign nationals, with Israelis, Americans and British taking the top three places, a release from Shenzhen Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau showed Tuesday.

The contestants will bring 1,768 projects to the competition this year, 20% more than the number in the 2021 event. The projects will be in seven newly emerged industries, namely new generation electronic information, digital and fashion, high-end equipment manufacturing, low carbon, new materials, biomedicine, and health and ocean economy. A total of 211 projects have signed up for the preliminary contest in Silicon Valley, ranking first in terms of the number of participants, followed by London and Madrid.

Among the projects, 362 of them, or 20.5% will compete in the new generation electronic information category, and 324 projects will compete in the biopharmacy and health category.

The organizer, in cooperation with local enterprises, introduced a reward mechanism to attract talents to compete in the competitions around industrial software design, and research and development of semiconductors.

At the competition’s different stages and different categories, the organizer will offer awards. Projects that meet the criteria to settle in Shenzhen can get an entrepreneurship subsidy of 1 million yuan (US$138,439). A single contestant will be able to get 1.85 million yuan in awards and subsidies.

The organizer will also set up a venture capital pool to provide services for startup projects and give policy supports for their development.

The final competition will be held in the city in November, according to the organizer.

Previous events in the last five years have attracted 7,655 projects from 89 countries and regions. Among the 350 projects in the Shenzhen finals, over 120 had reached agreements with the city’s industrial parks. Over 50 projects have settled in Shenzhen and over 100 high-level professionals have started their businesses in the city.
