Founded in 2023, the SIYO is initiated by 3 passionate high school students aiming to provide young musicians opportunities to play in advanced orchestral settings and promote classical music in our community. The orchestra has 34 musicians from different international and local schools in the greater Shenzhen area.
Since its establishment, the orchestra performed publicly for the first time on January 27, 2024, and February 3, 2024, at the theatre of Shekou International School and the theatre of the International School of Nanshan Shenzhen respectively, performing works by Beethoven, Elgar, Sibelius, Grieg, etc. The orchestra’s outstanding performance in these two concerts received enthusiastic applause from the audience.
The Orchestra will rehearse weekly at the Net Valley campus of the Shekou International School, from 14:00-16:30. The main language used in the orchestra is English. The orchestra’s main focus of repertoire is classical, but we also rehearse works that are less serious and familiar to the public occasionally. We will hold charity concerts from time to time, or participate in performances at other events, providing orchestra performance opportunities as much as possible, and are committed to building SIYO into a first-class youth orchestra in Shenzhen. SIYO does not charge fees of any kind, We only hope that students participating in the orchestra can truly immerse themselves in the joy of making music with their peers.

Registration Requirement
- instruments with open vacancies:
-violin, viola, double bass, oboe, French horn, trombone, percussion - aged 10-18
Applicants should have at least some previous musical instrument experiences. We will prioritize applicants with previous ensemble playing experience - The primary language of the orchestra is English, we don’t require applicants to speak fluent English, but must at least be able to understand the language
How to apply?
1. Scan the QR code below and fill out the registration form (the upper is the registration form in English and the lower is the registration form in Chinese)
2. Record a video of yourself playing a piece that best reflects your playing ability, around 3~5 mins long and send it to email [email protected], with the email format: Email title format: “SIYO Registration+Student Name+Instrument”
3. After you have passed the audition, one of the student leaders will contact you through the WeChat ID you have left in the registration form.
4. Applying or attending the orchestra is completely free of charge
