Shenzhen Weekly Round Up – Feb 13: Love, Balloons, and Earthquakes

Dear Shenzhen-er,

It's time for chocolates, flowers, and perhaps a choice balloon this week. Here's a link to our Valentine's Day Guide which has a number of food / getaway options to mark the occasion. Non-love related balloons continue to be a top trending meme focal point as the US and China continue to "pop" offending floaties out of the sky. The US has blacklisted a number of Chinese firms as a result - you can read the full article here (mind the propaganda as usual).

In news not related to inflatables - sadly - the world's eyes and hearts have been fixated on Turkey and Syria where a magnitude 7.8 earthquake has killed over 34,000 and counting. Shenzhen sent some relief earlier this week - if you'd like to donate please consider contacting the phone number linked within. We've had a few smaller quakes (3.2 & 4.3 Magnitude) here in GuangDong ourselves over the past 10 days - here's a brief article discussing some questions around them.

For those of you that haven't heard of the latest tech craze - consider spending some time Googling ChatGPT, for obvious reasons we can't link anything directly to you here. Finally, to keep yourself up-to-date with party lines here the mainland consider reading this longer format article discussing the future of Chinese modernization.

For those of you that were up at the crack of dawn for the Super Bowl - hope you enjoyed the game! The Big Fat Quiz event was moved to this coming weekend.
