It is truly amazing how fast the city of Shenzhen is able to recover and get back to work after a storm like Mangkhut ravages it for a day. Hats off to all the workers and volunteers who are working hard to get the city back on its feet so quickly. According to local forecast, Mangkhut was the strongest storm to impact Shenzhen since Typhoon Ellen in 1983.
Less than 24 hours after the arrival of Mangkhut, the city’s metro, buses, flights, taxis and many train services; including the high speed train between Shenzhen and Guangzhou were back to normal. Unfortunately, ferry service is not operational today and may not be tomorrow. We’re still waiting for further announcements regarding Tuesday ferry service.
Many long distance trains are also still not running. Shenzhen Bay Border Crossing was damaged and closed this morning. It, along with the Huanggang Border Crossing are open; however, they are both reportedly extremely crowded. One of our readers went through the Futian Border Crossing this afternoon and said it was not crowded and was very fast and easy. Sea World plaza and many of our favorite bars and restaurants are open today.
