Shenzhen Weekly Round Up – Mar 13: NPC Closing Remarks, 2008 v2.0, The Beer Festival of the Year & The Oscars

Dear Shenzhen-er,

The front page of every local media agency is awash with remarks and highlights on the NPC Annual Sessions, as anticipated. It would be worthwhile to review some of the resulting reports as they'll impact policy in the years ahead. US headlines broke into Chinese media this past week over the closing of Silicon Valley Bank and yesterday's closure of New York-Based Signature Bank. This article aims to ease concerns about the local impact - but as always - mind the spin.

The Oscars concluded earlier today leaving my absolute favorite film of 2022 - Everything, Everywhere, All at Once - winning 7 different awards. If you haven't seen it I cannot recommend it highly enough. You'll need to seek out more information via Google as there's no locally approved coverage of the results yet.

In local news the popularity of camping is up 1000% according to this article. A trend a quick stroll around the city will reveal in the decor of many outdoor food and beverage venues.

The biggest social event of the week will undoubtedly be Bionic Brew's Electric City Craft Beer Fest running from the 17th to the 19th - be there or be square - as they say. Our Guangzhou based friends at Global Friendship are putting together a Sexy Ladies Night in support of women and in celebration of Women's Day on Saturday for those interested women in our audience.
