Shenzhen Weekly Round Up – Dec 19: Merry Covid Christmas Shenzhen (and a Happy New Year!)

Dear Shenzhen-er,

You'll want to keep those seatbelts low and tight across your lap for these next few weeks (if not longer) as we're going to be enduring some sustained Covid-19 related turbulence. To get an idea of the timeline we're looking at (as well as for the rest of the country) have a look at the graphic in this article which outlines the anticipated PEAK of the outbreak by province. Secondly, we'd recommend you review this relatively comprehensive article on what to expect once you catch Covid - to get a good idea of where you are in the infection process and when you should seek help... should you contract the virus (spolier alert: you probably will sometime in the next few months). Finally here's an article concerning the last pillar of restrictive policy we're still waiting full destruction of - quarantine for international travelers.

Here's some breaking anecdotal news on what's been happening on the ground: some areas have reported a reduction of the inbound quarantine period to 2+3 days (2 central/3 @ home) and per several 1st hand reports protection measures taken for inbound travelers seem to be focusing on protecting them from infection rather than locals - in otherwords a 360 from the status quo. Please don't take these notes to the bank (get it? 😉) - wait for official notices to be released and confirm with sources on the ground before planning around this information.
