Shenzhen Weekly Round Up – Oct 24, 2022: Latest National Congress Notes, Notable F&B Closures and Openings, and Covid Festering

Dear Shenzhen-er,

The latest headlines associated with the National Congress meeting were markedly less veiled when it came to criticizing the west (see the 5th paragraph down under the subtitle "Humanity's Shared Values" for an example). Those of us interested in distillining indication on the direction we're headed concerning restrictive covid polices have only these few words from Xi to chew on "We’ll be steadfast in deepening reform and opening up across the board, and in pursuing high-quality development." As we assume those of you amongst us that remain in our war-stricken city are savvy enough to consume local media with a sizeable grain of salt we'll share this resource which provides further "approved" meeting highlights. Covid numbers from yesterday are down from the previous few days - 3 new cases with none coming from community screening - although the current situation remains in the neighborhood of "grim" to use the terminology of late. For those of you in Futian (and especially those of your near ShangSha) keep your eyes and ears open as we've been receiving a barrage of phone calls and texts about new cases in the area. The freshest mole in the midst of getting whacked it would seem. Check our Covid Dashboard throughout the week to stay abreast of the latest

In local news Shenzhen's 6th International Entrepreneurship Contest begins tomorrow, Braceria Pugliese is sadly closing down it's Shuiwei branch, and our friends at HH Bagels are continuing with their soft opening of their 2nd location at 90+ in Nanshan. Wanted to give a shout out to Joseph over at EATShenzhen for doing an outstanding job of supporting and reporting within the F&B industry here - his voice continues to be a much needed rallying cry within that community.
